    • Topic 1

      Basic English

      GRAMMAR

We are working on grammar and writing skills by using the Kansas Writing Strategies. It's a lot of work, but everyone is doing great, and working very hard!

      Writing Assignment #2

For our second writing assignment, we are going to be writing a fictional short story. The students get to pick what their story is going to be about, and use their imagination to creat characters, plot, and the other elements of a short story! For this writing assignments, we will be focusing on sentence fluency, and ideas, from the 6- traits of writing.

      • Topic 2

        Basic Reading

In reading we jsut started the poetry/figurative language unit. The students have really enjoyed coming up with their own examples of figurative language, and we will be writing unique and creative poems! At the end of this unit, the students will make a figurative language and poetry book, to show off what creative students and thinker they are!

To improve the reading skills of everyone in the class, we are going to be using a direct instruction reading program, called, Corrective Reading. We will be focusing on the individual sounds of letters, and then blending those letters together to sound out words, among other things. The program starts at the basics of reading, but as the students improve, the concepts become more difficult. We will be starting this after the winter break

        • Topic 3

          BASIC MATH

In math, we are currently working on Chapter 4: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. It is a more difficult subject matter, but the students are all working hard, and picking up on the main ideas of ch. 4!
