8th Grade Resource Language Arts and Math

Hello! I teach 8th grade Language Arts and Math in the small group setting. I also co-teach Math in the general education setting. This is my 5th year of teaching. I previously taught at the high school level in Chicago and in Seattle. I have a B.A. in Psychology from St. Olaf College (go Oles!) and a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of Minnesota.

Math - Students will work towards their individualized goals as well as learn content directly related to the Minnesota state standards in math. Homework will be assigned on an average of two times a week! At home, students can always be practicing their basic facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions, decimals, and whole numbers). I also have links below to some great websites that motivate students to practice math. Our textbook has an online version - please see the link on the home page of SHMS.

Language Arts - Students will work towards their reading and written expression goals. The focus of this course will be on reading fluency, comprehension, and word knowledge. Students will also do significant amounts of writing while working on sentence, paragraph, and essay structure. Students have a reading log that requires them to read 2.5 hours (or more) a week outside of school. Additional copies of that reading log can also be downloaded from below.

I also provide homework support and organizational support during 8th grade house time every day but Tuesday. Students can see me before house time to acquire a pass to be excused from homeroom.
