Welcome to Mrs. Nicolai's Class Page
Third graders are vibrant individuals. Typically, an eight or nine-year-old is an eager learner and makes great strides in this school year. This is the year for ch-ch-changes, too. These changes may include children getting glasses, having braces put on teeth, reading to learn and receiving service for articulation differences. | |

| 3 | Inter-generational Pen Pal Project
Our homeroom is involved in an inter-generational pen pal project! Augustana Care Center, in Apple Valley, and children at Diamond Path have been involved in this delightful exchange for 24 years. Children in this homeroom class are paired with residents from the Care Center each year. We exchange letters and pictures on a monthly basis. The older pen pals key into the activities of the younger ones while the younger pen pals enjoy sharing tidbits from their lives and the interest of the older generation. In February, third graders visit Augustana Care Center to meet the pen pals face-to-face. In May, the older folks come to our school for a tour, a short program and time to visit. The hardest part is saying farewell at the visit's end. In July, families go to Augustana Care Center for a picnic. This is a lovely time to visit, share an activity, eat lunch together and introduce our family members to our older friends. Warm feelings abound!
