Welcome to World Cultures 8 and Study Skills!

I am very excited to be teaching you and these classes! Spanish and learning about culture are personal passions of mine; I love everything about language and culture. Below are paintings from two of my favorite artists.

Spanish 7!

This is a very exciting class where we will begin to discover the Spanish language! The main focus will be on vocabulary; activities, adjectives, numbers, classroom activities and objects, family, and the best of all…food! We will also uncover grammar concepts such as verb conjugation, telling time, present and future tense, and describing locations of people and objects.

In addition to all of this, we have a wonderful new curriculum with excellent technology supplements. The students will mainly be accessing the textbook online, but they are invited to check out a textbook to bring home for the year if they would like to.

This area of my webpage will serve as an efficient resource to your student’s Spanish adventure. You and your student will find information on what was done that day, the homework, access to worksheets, and the always important due dates.

Spanish 8

Let’s continue on our journey of learning the Spanish language. During the 8th grade year, we will spend a little over a month reviewing the content covered last year. After strengthening our foundation, we will begin to learn new vocabulary surrounding clothing, city, and much more. There will be an increased focus on grammar including using past tense, new types of verbs, and various grammar structures.

In addition to all of this, we have a wonderful new curriculum with excellent technology supplements. The students will mainly be accessing the textbook online, but they are invited to check out a textbook to bring home for the year if they would like to.

World Cultures 8!

This class is an exciting combination of individual and team work where the students will begin to discover the ever changing meaning of culture and the different types of culture present in our world. We will look at our personal and local culture as well as cultures prevalent in our country and around the globe. The students will be involved in individual, pair, and group work in activities, assignments, and projects.

We will begin by discussing the definition and components of culture. The students will look at their personal culture and the culture found around them. We then embark on a discovery of the ancient Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations of Mexico, Central America, and South America. Technology will be a large piece of this class. It will be incorporated in class as well as by the students in activities and projects.

The Aztec project will be due and ready for presentation on Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19!!! The requirements need to be fulfilled by the whole team!!!!!!

Study Skills 6/Spanish 6

Our Spanish program is growing at Scott Highlands Middle School!! What results is an exciting hybrid of Spanish and Study Skills. The class will be a balance of the two content areas. The students enrolled in this class will be able to complete two years of Spanish and essentially begin high school Spanish at level 3! This is a very exciting and unique opportunity! Your student and I will be working very hard to learn the fundamental concepts of the language. Intertwined will be weekly mini-lessons revolving around organization and study skills.
The Spanish portion of the class will focus on vocabulary; activities, adjectives, numbers, classroom activities and objects, family, and the best of all…food! We will also uncover grammar concepts such as verb conjugation, telling time, present and future tense, and describing locations of people and objects.
In addition to all of this, we have a wonderful new curriculum with excellent technology supplements. The students will mainly be accessing the textbook online, but they are invited to check out a textbook to bring home for the year if they would like to.
The Study Skills portion of the class will focus on central themes such as note taking, planner use, binder organization, goal setting, study methods, typing skills, and personal and academic reflection techniques.
