Topic outline

Welcome to Ms. Rauner's American Studies Class

This month we are examining the time period at the turn of the century, from the end of the 1800’s to the beginning of the 1900’s, We will explore the topics of industrialization, immigration and Progressivism.

In our study of industrialization and immigration, students will be looking at the growth of factories at the turn of the century, including the benefits and problems that this brought to our nation. We will also discover the contributions made by the mass of immigrants who were coming to our nation during this period of time. If you get the chance, check out the Animated History feature entitled “Ellis Island” in the online textbook.

During the second half of the month, we will focus on the Progressive Movement in America. This is a time period of our history when many people were trying to make social changes in society. Issues included in these lessons will be child labor, women’s suffrage, and problems with urbanization.
