    Welcome to Family and Consumer Science!

                            Sixth grade

    Family and consumer Science(FACS) is a one trimester course. Sixth grade students will explore the following topics:  Foods & nutrition, child development, sewing and clothing care. The primary goal is to make this class meaningful and practical for all students.  Please contact me via email if you have any questions/concerns; Deborah.Bognanno@district196.org.

    6th Grade Sewing supplies:

    Sixth graders will need to bring in several pieces of felt, one spool of all-purpose thread, a food storage bag labeled with their name and class period and a roll of clear scotch tape.  We will use these supplies during the sewing unit. Any unused supplies will be sent back home with students.

     the following will be needed for FACS for life, survival course:

     Supplies for drawstring bag:

    1) 1/2 yard of 45" wide sturdy material, canvas, denim, corduroy.  Need 3/4 yard if fabric has a one-way design. Please: no fake fur or fleece.  

     2)  A decorative patch, contrasting trim or some other way to personalize their bag(optional).

    3)  one spool of matching (all purpose) thread.  Please, no upolstery, sulky, hand quilting or button hole thread.

    4) 4 yards cotton or nylon cording(1/4 inch wide). Thick cording does not work.
