    Today we will log on to our Book Review Site: Goodreads

    1. 1.Give us the email address you will use for this account.

    2. 2. Go to http://www.goodreads.com/

    3. 3. Type in Name, Password (remember this)

    4. 4. DO NOT check address book. Go to Skip this step at the bottom

    5. 5. What are you currently reading? Just fill in Name of Book, locate the book, Type the page you are on and hit save. You can add information later.

    6. 6. Click Continue

    7. 7. Go to your email account. Verify your goodreads account

    8. 8. Make your personal settings private and only for friends.

    9. 9. You should get an invite from Our Reading Group.

      Article Of The Week

      Part of the reason students have such a hard time reading is because they bring little prior knowledge and background to the written page. They can decode the words, but the words remain meaningless without a foundation of knowledge.

      To help build your prior knowledge, you will be assigned an "Article of the Week". By the end of the school year you will have read 35 to 40 articles about what is going on in the world.

      It is not enough to simply teach students to recognize theme in a given novel; if students are to become literate, they must broaden their reading experiences into real-world text.

      Here you will find the articles assigned this quarter.

      As students read, they are encouraged to use reading codes and write comments in the margin. See the Reading Code document and a student example below.
