    Mrs. Hoff's 5th Grade

    Pinewood Band Page

    welcome

I am happy to be here at Pinewood teaching band! It will be my 22nd year teaching band in ISD 196 this fall!  I was at Dakota Hills Middle School in Eagan for 14 years and have been at Pinewood Elementary school and Diamond Path School of International Studies for the last 7 years.

I live in Stillwater with my husband and two children. My daughter is in 6th grade and is playing the clarinet and my son is a 9th grader and plays the trumpet!  I love being a parent of band students and being in the audience at their concerts! We are a busy family, like yours, with many outside of school activities.  When I am not at school, I am usually at the hockey rink with both kids, soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, etc... We also love to attend as many Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Vikings and UMD Bulldog games as possible!

I hope to instill a love and passion for playing an instrument and being a member of a band into all of my students.  Band is a wonderful adventure that starts in 5th grade and one that will hopefully continue through their school years ahead and on into their adult lives in some way.  I believe each student can have success and be involved in multiple activities at the same time.  As we start this adventure together this year, there will be lots of learning, practicing, community building, playing, performing and of course we will have tons of fun while doing it!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns: melanie.hoff@district196.org or voicemail (651) 683-6969 ext. 86761.

    • SCHOOL BAND LESSONS

Each student is in a group of like instruments that meet weekly for 25-30 minutes on either Tuesday or Thursday during the school day.  A rotating time schedule is used so that students do not miss the same subject each week.

Your student will be assigned to a lesson day.  Lessons at Pinewood are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Lessons will begin on Tuesday, September 12th!

      • MORNING BAND

Morning Band Rehearsals: Morning band starts Tuesday, October 10th. We begin playing promptly at 8:00 a.m.. Students must arrive at 7:50 a.m. to get their instrument and stand set up. All students are required to attend each rehearsal, as this is our only time to learn how to play together as a group and get ready for our concerts. Please contact Mrs. Hoff regarding absences from rehearsal. Missing due to sickness and vacations are excused reasons for absence. **Please do not drop students off at school on Band Mornings before 7:45am, as there is no supervision until this time.

Winter Concert: Tuesday, January, 9th at 6:30pm

Spring Concert:  Tuesday, April 17th at 6:30pm
