What to look forward to next week!
* Buddies – We start our 1st grade buddies on Monday.
* Peace Corp Pen Pal from Swaziland – We received our first letter from Vanessa. We will be hearing the letter on Monday and writing back to her.
* Minnesota Immigration – The students will be continuing to work on the i-movie process. They will be adding their voices to their movie.
* Check Books – The students started balancing their checkbook in an excel program. Look in your child’s Friday folder for their balance statement. This is a great resource to find out how your child is doing completing homework and behavior in the classroom. The print outs will be going home every other week.
* In Math, students will continue to work on addition and subtraction in their math groups.

Math:
The students will be continuing to work on number sense. The targets that they will be working on are:
Target 1:Use addition and subtraction to solve real-world or mathematical problems.
Target 2: Add whole numbers (up to three digits).
(Show your strategy and estimation.)
Target 3: Subtract whole numbers (up to three digits).
Problem Solving – The students will be continuing to learning how to solve problems using more than one strategy. The students will also be writing about their strategies.
Simple Machines and Inventions The students will be inquiring into the six simple machines. Where did these machines come from? How do they help make-work easier? How do we use these machines today? The students will be using their knowledge of the simple machines and problem solving to help create an invention. There are many skills that one must acquire in becoming an inventor: creative, curious, problem solver, persistent, and open to criticism. The students will be creating an invention at home to present at our Thomas Edison Day in December.
Minnesota: The students will be finishing their inquiry investigation into Minnesota History. The students will be showing their knowledge through a creation of an i-movie. Look for your child’s movie to be shown in late November.
Check out our Pen Pal letter from Peace Corp Vanessa from Swaziland, Africa.
