Welcome to English as a Second Language page!This course is designed for the kids who learn English as a Second Language. It covers different areas of language study, such as Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.  | |
| 1 | Literacy Workshop This class is going to focus on reading and writing skills. We are going to read and discuss a lot of books, work on reading comprehension strategies and genres, write for different purposes, and learn how to apply knowledge of 6+1 Traits in writing. In addition to various activities in class the kids are required to read every night at home. The Reading Log form (blue) goes home and should be signed by a parent every week. The signature is due every Friday.

| 2 | Content English class
In Content English students learn the basic and necessary vocabulary and concepts for Science, Math, and Social Studies. We'll focus on Math first trimester and add any other content areas as needed.

| 3 | Transitional English
In Transitional English students follow a curriculum based on the standards used in the mainstream language arts classes. The basic units are Grammar (Parts of Speech, Sentences), Reading (Vocabulary, Comprehension, Literacy Craft, Reading Strategies, Poetry), and Writing (Writing Process, Narrative, Descriptive, Expository, Persuasive, and Poetry Writing: Six Traits of Good Writing).

| 4 | Academic Support
In Academic Support students receive help with assignments from their academic classes. As needed students receive extra practice in English language skills. The students are to keep track of everything they are working on in this class. This form requires Parent's Signature every week for getting a grade in class.
